Frontiers in Preclinical MRI

Living up to the 3R Principle

It is my pleasure to invite you to the second ESMRMB Preclinical MRI Event “Frontiers in Preclinical MRI: Living up to the 3R principle – Contribution of preclinical MRI”, to be held on September 30, 2020.

The meeting is designed to provide an overview of state-of-the-art preclinical MR, to explore future directions of preclinical MR and to initiate collaboration. As last year, the meeting will provide plenty of time to engage in fruitful exchanges with peers and colleagues. This year, a special focus will be on the contribution of preclinical MRI to the 3R efforts in the life sciences, in particular on refining animal experiments as well as reducing numbers.

The meeting is tailored to attract basic scientists, engineers, hardware professionals, translational researchers, applied scientists, veterinarians and clinicians with all levels of experience and expertise ranging from undergraduate and graduate students interested in imaging to trainees, advanced users and applications experts with the goal to strengthen interdisciplinary bonds and to foster translational work.

The scientific program will feature four scientific sessions on the latest developments in the major fields of preclinical MRI, presented by extraordinary speakers including leading preclinical experts in the respective MRI disciplines. The meeting will address the 3R topic by an introductory lecture on animal welfare regulations and requirements in Europe, and be closed by an interactive discussion of contributed presentations.

Call for contributions to the 3R discussion session

To provide a representative view of the contribution of preclinical MR to refine and reduce numbers in animal experiments in the life sciences, we call for short abstracts for contributed presentations during the 3R session. We are looking for contributions that highlight applications of MRI in preclinical studies, which actually reduced the number of animals or provided substantial added value by employing refined methods of animal experimentation. If you have such examples please submit a short (250 word) abstract by August 31, 2020 (send a 1-page pdf document to office@esmrmb.org). We plan to summarise this session in a joint publication of all contributors in our society journal, MAGMA.

With this highly interactive and interdisciplinary event, we would like to engage the preclinical and clinical community, and encourage established scholars as well as young researchers and students to discuss the present and future of preclinical MRI research.

Don’t miss this opportunity to network and meet colleagues from across Europe and beyond.

We look forward to meeting you online!
