The aim of this course is to convey in-depth knowledge about functional fMRI (both task-related and resting fMRI). Both variants are used extensively in clinical practice, but at the same time are highly dependent on acquisition and post-processing which affects interpretation. Additionally, clinical situations such as peritumoral edema, may interfere with fMRI signal. This course module is organized along the main diseases in which these techniques are used most frequently: presurgical tumor mapping, epilepsy, neurodegeneration. In this way, technical and clinical aspects are addressed jointly, providing a profound insight on how to best tailor imaging protocols to specific clinical questions, and how to interpret findings in the context of a specific imaging technique. These topics are taught using a mixture of lectures, case-based workshops, and panel discussions.
