The eLearning course will take place in winter 2019. Furthermore, the course extends over a period of six consecutive weeks consisting of seven modules taking place always at 6 pm (CET) on the following Mondays:

Module 1: Repetition: the physical basis of nuclear magnetic resonance

  • The NMR effect: classical and quantum mechanics description
  • Gyromagnetic ratio, Larmor equation, resonance
  • Different nuclei, sensitivity
  • Magnetic field
  • RF field: pulses, rotating frame
  • Free induction decay, Fourier transform
  • Magnetic field variations: chemical shift vs. gradients
  • Spin echoes
  • Relaxation, T1, T2 and contrast

Module 2: Repetition image formation & advanced reconstruction techniques

  • Sampling techniques
  • Parallel imaging

Module 3: Repetition basic clinical sequences, tissue contrast and image quality & practical image optimization

    • Relaxation times T1 and T2
    • TE, TR and flip angle
