Magma

MAGMA is a multidisciplinary international journal devoted to the publication of articles on all aspects of magnetic resonance techniques and their applications in medicine and biology. In addition to regular issues, the journal also publishes special issues. Many leading groups have contributed articles and reviews illustrating current applications as well as new methodological and instrumental developments in the following fields:

1- “Small Animal MR Imaging and Spectroscopy” (32 articles), published in December 2004

2- “High Field MR Imaging“ (15 articles) with Jürgen Hennig as Guest-Editor, published in March 2008

3- "MR of the Prostate" (7 articles) with Carolyn Mountford as Guest Editor, published in November 2008

4- NEW ! “MR imaging of brain networks: Developments and Applications“ with Dorothée Auer, Ewald Moser and Jean-Philippe Ranjeva as Guest-Editors. This special issue will be published in early 2011. This issue will cover the following:
-New MR acquisition or post-processing techniques to assess functional brain connectivity (resting-state fMRI).
-New MR acquisition or post-processing techniques to assess structural brain connectivity (DTI/Q Ball imaging).
-Applications of resting state fMRI and/or DTI in the characterization of brain connectivity organization and connectivity disorders.
-Comparative studies researching the electrophysiological, magnetoencepahlographic underpinnings of resting-state fMRI.

MAGMA being the official journal of ESMRMB, the selection of topics represents also the interests of ESMRMB members. This was illustrated by the highly cited editorial written by Georg Bongartz and published in mid-April 2007 « Imaging in the time of NFD/NSF - do we have to change our routines concerning renal insufficiency?”. Thanks to a fast track, this editorial brought to the readers of MAGMA in a very short time a wealth of valuable information on this hot topic when it had just emerged in the MR community.

In 2009, the following highlights reflect the consolidation and the large dissemination of the journal :
- Manuscript submissions have increased by 50% over the past 2 years
- Electronic subscriptions: the journal is currently read by 5,081 institutions worlwide through the Springer library(220 consortia)
- Downloads with full text hits: in 2009, in average 2.623 full text articles/ month were downloaded from the website
- The reviewing cycle (5 weeks) and time-to-publication on-line after acceptation (4 weeks) are the shortest among MR journals.

Finally, as a bonus to authors, MAGMA keeps with its policy of not applying charges for color illustrations!
